ARTIST STATEMENT:

"In a time of globalization and multiculturalism, the human race as a whole has become curious about the different cultures and beliefs of other peoples.  Although we make a conscious effort to understand and explore our surroundings, we must look closer at the familiar and explore the world in multiple dimensions.  By doing so, we will become aware of the more obscure environments, languages, and subtle traits of humanity.  Likewise, we will realize the constant change of all things, thereby neutralizing our own pre-conceptions.  This closer exploration will ultimately create a more compassionate and enlightened human race; one that is better able to understand others and the importance of our world, for now and for many years to come."

VIEWING THE NEW WORK :

Artists are concentric gauges, where their position becomes central to capturing the patterns in social, natural and physical environments. By adjusting the sensitivity and perimeter, an artist can measure and record static information ranging from the immediate to the universal and dynamics from the ephemeral to the eternal. This feedback is then captured and funneled through a psychological filter and recorded with iconographic language. The technical method of execution, the extending range, and how well a transposed icon embodies an idea are the only differences amongst decorative and conceptual artists.

Immediate surroundings, albeit; color, form, graphics, news, are mimicked throughout my work by way of ornamental icons. On an intermediate level every effort is made to relate those same temporal icons to pre-existing ideas. The universal is implied by the motifs whose elements have become part of our historical make up in art and society. Some icons have multiple meanings relative to mulitple levels on a piece. A seed becomes a flower petal becomes a wind turbine blade. The immediate becomes more than what is painted and guides the viewer into further extrapolations. Often, there are those pieces that relate to a single moment encapsulating a universal social blessing or ill. While poetic additions are minimal to the work, there are moments where poetics serve as the only guide to the image at hand.

It is my hope to create work that sheds a continuous light on humanity and culture as it was, as it stands and as it might be in the years to come.
